Whether it’s a night out with friends, date night with your significant other, or another fun family activity, Friday night is usually an exciting end-of-week celebration. However, movement restrictions with the COVID-19 pandemic have made every night a night in. Until now. This Friday night, USO Denver teamed up with Buckley Air Force Base to put together a pop-up Drive-In Movie Theater!

Equipped with face masks, gloves, and reflective vests, USO Staff and Buckley Volunteers distributed goodie bags filled with movie snacks as more than 100 military families came out to enjoy the double-feature from the socially-distanced comfort of their vehicles. Excitement radiated from the vehicles, as families of all military branches and components came together for the first time in over a month of lockdowns.

Anticipation grew as the sun set, and the first movie was about to begin. We have no doubt the drive-in was a success, providing a much needed morale-boost for everyone involved, especially after receiving feedback like this:

“Thank you so much!!!! It was so much fun and just what we needed!”
– National Guard Spouse

“This is what everyone needed! It was perfect. Thank you!!”
– USMC Family

“Awesome event! This would be a cool thing post COVID as well!”
– USAF Service Member

“We had a wonderful time! Thank you so much! It was so nice for the kids to have something to look forward to that was out of the house!”
– USAF Spouse

The USO’s mission of connection is not deterred by social distancing, in fact, our military service members and their families know we’re still here, by their side through innovative programming like this no matter the distance.
