USO Denver Hosts Virtual Baby Shower for Military Moms

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt celebrations of major life events like baby showers for new military moms, who are stationed far from their hometowns. The USO team hosted a virtual baby shower just for them! Forty-five Military moms across Colorado and Wyoming joined us to celebrate their new bundles of joy along with “What to Expect” author, Heidi Murkoff. During the event, moms connected with others in their community, shared stories, and played baby shower games like “Pass the Paci” and “Baby Bump Budgeting” with USO volunteers before a great Q&A session with Heidi.

Speaking of volunteers, the three who joined us for this event aren’t able to volunteer in person with us right now for health reasons, so this was an amazing opportunity to have them participate in a non-traditional way. Each of them stepped out of their comfort zone to learn how to use the unfamiliar technology and did an incredible job. One volunteer sent us this note after the event, “Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this special event, it was so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this! It was so good to see many smiling faces. I love our military families.”

The moms who participated had a great time too, sharing on our Facebook comments like, “Thank you all who helped put this on!”, “Thank you so much for the shower!”, and “Thank you so much! We had a great time!”

Of course, no baby shower is complete without some baby gifts. Each mom had to opportunity to win a variety of door prize drawings and everyone will receive a gift bag filled with baby items, including a copy of one of Heidi’s books, shipped directly to their home courtesy of Target and What to Expect.
