Social distancing during this pandemic has everyone at home feeling isolated, and not able to interact in ways they normally would. The USO’s operations have certainly changed as well, but our mission of connection remains vitally important for our military and their families and we’re still here by their side through innovative, virtual programming no matter the distance.

One such program, “Trivia Night Live!” kicked off last night with nearly 300 military members and their loved ones gathering around their computers from the comfort of their homes across the Front Range, ready for some healthy competition and social interaction while playing a custom game of trivia hosted by USO Denver. Family teams worked together to answer twenty-six multiple choice questions in five categories, including a bonus question about the USO while following along on a live broadcast via social media.

Despite some technical challenges with the beginning of the live broadcast, the event was a success! One family told us afterwards that, “This [event] was important because as our kids have become teenagers we don’t often connect. Everyone came together and had different knowledge to add. We laughed, we yelled answers, and we just had so much fun in the wake of such upheaval lately.” Trivia Night encouraged even more interaction beyond the event too, as another family said, “It brings our family together and our community. My friends all messaged each other afterwards to see who go the highest score from all of us.”

Speaking of high scores, our top teams this week were: Team “Devil Dogs” in first place racking up a whopping 99 points, followed by a close second place, Team “You’re a Quizzard Harry” with 97 points, and coming in third with 91 points, we have Team “AngelFam4”! Thank you to all the military families who joined us and congratulations to our winning teams! Winners this week will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant so they can enjoy a family dinner together at home.

Join us next week for “Trivia Night Live!” We’re shifting to a different live platform, and everyone is welcome to watch the live stream, look for a link for each event listed on the link below or on our social media channels @USODenver.

More than 20 teams have already signed up to play again next week. There is still plenty of room – up to 100 teams can play at a time! Teams wishing to compete must pre-register and must be currently serving military members - all branches and components, including active duty, national guard, reserves, and coalition forces are welcome.
